7G tronic?
I test drove an 03 SL55 today at my local dealership and it was phenomenal. Similar to our S600 it really throws you in seat and also traction control has a problem putting the power onto the ground. Im debating picking up this 03 and saving some money or waiting for an 05. I know the 05 will have DVD nav and an upgraded sound system but the main question is will it have the new 7G tronic transmission?
Thanks in advance.

Some on this forum think the 7G trans. will be available. 3 different dealers told me the only significant changes will be DVD based Nav and an uprated audio system with multichannel, no 7G. Who knows for sure?

The current 5 speed is limited to 1000Nm torque capacity, that is why the '65 motor is torque limited, to save the auto from self destructing. The new 7G cannot handle the torque of either the standard supercharged V8, or turbo charged V12 motors, let alone the AMG 65. A new 7G will eventually be released with a 1200Nm torque rating. MB has issues press releases on this subject previously, but don't expect it on the 05 MY SL55.
