I am seriously considering ordering an 05 SL55. Im hearing the car wont have 7Gtronic till 06. I currently have an 04 G500 and am considering putting wheels on it but want to wait until I know what im doing with the SL. We have an 02 Turbo and we love it but Im wondering which car is better? One of the few drawbacks to the porsche is that the new 997 shape is only a year away. However, Im also hearing that the SL will be refreshed in 06 with a new nose and other goodies. Im also wondering why everyone on these forums worships the turbo soo much. The prices of the SL and Turbo are in the same category but it seems that if they had to do it again they would get a turbo. Just looking for some guidance from fellow car nuts. Oh and I saw a picture in the SL55 picture thread of a black SL55 with stone interior and 19" amg wheels. Our S600 is this combo and we love it. Is this combo available for the SL55? How much more is the SL65 than the 55? The wheels on the 65 look darker and the front bumper looks more aggressive. Are these wheels and the bumper job available on the 55? Sorry for the long post...soo many questions.

i had a 911 turbo with x-50 package and thoroughly enjoyed the car. it is not the ultimate driving car that many would have you believe; among other things it gets fairly nervous at high speeds on rough roads and can be very susceptable to crosswinds. still, nice and fast; however not built nearly as well as the sl55 and the real world performance of the sl is, if not equal, much easier amd more enjoyable to access. i sold my tt and still have the sl55- no regrets.

The sl65 is a ****load more than the SL55, performance is only slightly faster, but its heavier. I'd get an SL55 with the F1 package, which has the 65 bodykit, better brakes and uprated suspension.

This will make the 55 better performance, so it wont be so different to the porsche. Although the porsche may be the driving enthusiasts choice, the SL55 is nearly as good, you can drive it everyday, its better built, and far more comfortable. I definitely think its worth the small trade-off in performance, and if you only have one or two cars, youll never regret it. You may get sick of the porsches harsh ride, lack of comfort features etc.
So...

Black SL55 with charcoal interior, alcantara headlining, F1 package, choose your wheels (I recommend 5 spokes), and if you want some extra performance, see Brabus...

P.S - And I think it will be the only convertible in the family:p

Twinturbo,

I think we see eye to eye. Your right it will be the only convertible in the family. I've always like the convertible concept but hated the "ragtop" look. The F1 package seems very appealing. How much is this package? Is it available in the US? I also like the Alcantra headliner as I had this in my M5. Even the color choice you selected was the one that I liked. However, in regards to the wheels, I like the 19" twin five spoke similar to the CL55 wheels. Are the SL65 wheels available yet? I saw a picture in the SL55 picture thread of an SL55 with stone interior on page 9 I believe. Is this available? Is bluetooth available with the new comand? how bout tv tuner? Thanks for your insight.

The interior color of the car on page 9 is Ash/Dark Ash if you are speccing in the US. The upper parts of the dash and door are a dark gray color, the lower dash and seats are a pale gray. The color constrast with Black is stunning IMHO, the downside is that you see scuff marks on the leather much more than you would with a Charcoal interior.
