2005 SL65 Brake Squeak question - 1st time AMG owner
New owner of an '05 SL65. It's got about 40k miles on it and the brakes have about 50% of life left in them. They're squeaking as I roll to a stop, and there's also sometimes a light squeak when I start accelerating (slowly) from a stop. This is my first SL and first AMG, so wanted to see if this is something to be concerned about. Also attached some pics of the car, just to share.

Usually Carbon Ceramic breaks tend to do this. The reason you stop when you hit the brakes is due to friction, the rubbing of the pads on the rotors with significant force brings you to a halt. The formulation for brake pads to enable that to happen without crazy amounts of squeal is equal parts experimentation and materials alchemy. But for carbon ceramic brakes, noise is often secondary to stopping power and repeatability. You can bed your brakes.

I've never seen this era 65 series come with carbon brakes. I believe that came much later.
Do some digging on this site. Brake squeal on the 65 series cars has been an issue. My First SL did it severely. However, the current one does not. I swapped pads, de-glazed the rotors, used special lubricants, and the problem still persisted. In the end, I think the previous owner got the rotors way too hot. I never got around to swapping rotors on that car. But as i mentioned, my current SL which i bought with only 3,000 miles, has no brake squeal. Time will tell if i can keep it that way.
Unless it's unbearable, I would just keep driving it. I put over 40,000 hard miles on my first SL, never an issue.

Thanks for the replies… For now I’m going to just drive it and monitor. It’s funny, I’ve wanted this car for a while, and now that I have it find myself constantly wanting to drive the car but feeling like I shouldn’t for various stupid reasons (afraid to rack up miles, don’t want to drive it in the rain, etc.). But I suppose I bought it to drive it, so I may as well get out there and enjoy.

My guess would be someone might of just swapped out the pads and did nothing with the rotors. Probably didn't want to fork out the money on the front rotors.
I'd have someone check the rotors if they are ok to be resurfaced and resurface them and swap the pads out. DIY its a pretty cheap job.
