Upgrading Navigation on 2005 SL55 AMG

I have a 2005 SL 55 AMG and would like to upgrade the navigation without losing functionality of steering wheel controls or other functions. Any recommendations?

Thx, but not sure I'm following you. Dealer in Macon, GA said MB didn't have a replacement/upgrade.

Actually, I can get the map updates from the dealer and elsewhere. I'm looking into replacing the entire nav system w/out disabling the functions in the steering wheel. Thx, it is a creampuff with only 40K miles. Just like new!

2005 SL55 Completely Built Motor
Check out some of your local audio shops and find out if they worked on the SL's before or similar Benz's running these systems.

They can do some amazing work. I'd shy away from the China drop ins you see. For every one or two that seem to get everything working great, 5 or 6 can't get certain things working. Plus even if your lucky enough to get it done and working, my guess is the sound quality is questionable at best.

Figure out what you want to spend and go talk to the car audio places and see what they can do for you correctly.

The good news is that you have MOST fiber optic rather than the older version. This means that you can keep your Bose amp and speakers and buy a MOST adapter harness. You can also get a Dension Gateway that can allow you to add in iPhone or Bluetooth connectivity and use navigation from your phone. Most head units can also support CANBUS integration that allows you to use your steering wheel buttons via an adapter unit.

Also having an '05 SL means head unit trim pieces are available so you can make it look pretty well integrated with the dash.

Go see your local audio shop. I'm not sure some place like Crutchfield has items for our cars.
