I just took my 2006 SL55 through a car wash about an hour ago, and as soon as I got out my horn would not stop honking. Going straight or turning, it would be going off and wouldn't stop until I turned the car off. On top of that, there was a weird grinding motor sound coming from under the right dash, whether or not the car was on or off. This eventually stopped after about 20 minutes and the AC smelled like burnt plastic.
On top of that, the car doesn't lock and I just replaced the fuse for the locking system literally last night, and all was fine.
What could be causing these separate problems? Something got shorted in the car wash?
It isn't practical for me in public car wash bays to toss my keys in a bush 50+ feet away from the car, but I appreciate the sentiment.
I'll have to continue with people giving me strange looks as my lights flash, my car honks occasionally and I look like a person that cannot operate a car. It's a character building experience washing a Merc.
I found the stylish solution to the problem. I highly recommend a stylish fanny pack with RFID blocking capabilities. You know you want one while you are washing your car.
