Hi guys. I’ve recently purchased a 2007 SL55 and I’m considering getting a diagnostic tool to troubleshoot future problems. Sadly there are so many on the market I’m rather confused as to which would suit my application best. I don’t need a top of the line model as I’m not a mechanic, but I would like something that’s not entry level either. Is a built in display necessary or would you recommend something I’d need to connect to a laptop? Would I be able to clear error codes, pinpoint faulty parking sensors, etc... Is it even worth investing in something like this or should I rely on the dealerships? Thx in advance for any input and apologies if this has been covered elsewhere.
Any of the knock off star units will be the best bang for the buck. You will need to purchase a laptop dedicated for the diagnostic tool but this way you will get to read codes that most generic scanners will not provide. Also the star unit gives step by step instructions on troubleshooting.

I use this and it works excellent.
Don't buy a regular OBDII scanner as the codes won't match up right. You'll waste more time trying to cross reference crap and have half the features.

I know its one of the best systems with the most features from my research until you get into Star or the Chinese Star C3 system.
