I think my mirror indicator lenses are not stock!

Over the past few days of researching body parts for my intended SL65 front end & SL63 rear end upgrades, I have noticed that my 55 doesn't have the usual wing mirror indicator lenses. It wasn't til I wondered why mine were frosted / smoked and not clear that I noticed I have the arrow style lenses. I had never realised this til now and I've let myself down LOL!

I've been doing some brief digging around and I can't find out anything on these style lenses / covers for the R230 AMG. Can anyone provide any information? If I wanted to go back to stock, I take it that I will need to change the complete cover item?

I compared mine in pictures of my friend's 2003 Brabus K8 and it looks like his are stock too

If I kept them, can I change them from smoked to clear? Did MB ever supplied these items?

I think I now know why that when I clean the beast, the mirrors always felt and sounded a bit too plasticy! I'm not sure if I want to keep them on or not if they are not original item

Cheers,

T

Are you talking about the turn indicator lens on the front of the complete mirror assembly and not a turn indicator on the mirror itself - right? What year is your R230?

My 2007 SL55 has a clear lens on the front of both left and right mirror assemblies stock.

Thanks, it's a 2006 R230 and it's the lens on the wing mirror casing as in the pic below

Those look like complete mirrors from a 2009 and up R230 or perhaps a R231 model? Or maybe a European model?

Here's a picture from my 2007 SL55 R230 US model

They could be oem retrofits from a newer SL or an aftermarket facelift that a Taiwanese company makes and sells on ebay. Either way looks good!

Thanks guys, it came with the car and TBH I never thought much about it til now. It's def not a Euro thing and I really doubt it's a Merc part. They do feel plasticky so reckon they are aftermarket from Asia. Previous owner must have done it along with the single fin style front grille, which is coming off very soon thank god for an original 3 slat grille!

I just don't want anything aftermarket on the 55 so it's bugging me. It does look good though and goes with the darker original rear lights so think I will keep them on. Can't really see the arrow style n the picture below

By Darker style tail lights, do you mean "smoke"? I could be wrong, but was under the impression the "smoke" tail lights came out in the 2007 model year. Maybe those were changed out too?

I think it's the other way round, the F-L had clear rear lamps but I don't think I will waste money and change them, but then again, who knows what happens when I'm bored!
