SL63 AMG
Secondary Cam Chain Tensioners

Upon cold starting my 2013 SL63 AMG (41,300 miles). I get a rattling for about 4 seconds at the front of the engine and then it goes away. Took it to the dealer and they said that it was the secondary cam chain tensioners. They said it would steadily get worse and would have to be eventually replaced. They said the cost would be $7,000. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Seem like the repair cost is excessive.

2005 SL55 Completely Built Motor
Ouch.......................take it to an good European independent shop and see what they have to say as that is an issue that has been talked about on other forums with various forms of the SL63 engine.

That price sounds like taking the motor out of the car. The parts can't be very much and I don't think it requires a motor pull. I would think more around $750 to 1Kish for it all.
