SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Illuminated star installed on aftermarket grille.

Illuminated star installed on aftermarket grille.
I wanted to post some pictures of the grille purchased on eBay that I was able to install the lighted star emblem into using a dremel and gorilla glue/epoxy.
I wired the star into the fog light wiring so I can have the accessory lighting on without having the headlights on.
The star emblem was $27 and the the grille was $120.
I liked the look of the illuminated star grille through MB, but they don't offer one for the R230 and the cost would be ridiculously expensive if they did, so I took matters into my own hands and made it happen myself. Pics of the result are attached.

What's the difference between my illuminated star and your MB hood emblem? Take off that emblem than your comment would have merit.
I did it because I like the way it looks, that's it.

Big difference because it is now a simple AMG emblem which the general public doesn't know. I even removed the Merc wheel centres and replaced them with pretty unidentifiable AMG ones. I prefer not cruising around in my already ostentatious 'hair dresser's car' showing all that I have a Mercedes Benz. The purity of form of the car itself is often ruined by badges. My previous 575 Ferrari also was mostly de-badged and performance enhanced much to the chagrin of the cars and coffee F car drivers who never ever in their ownership come close to red lining their engines. I do like this forum because most '55' owners are purely interested in the performance of their cars. I also have an E55 which is similarily improved IMO. To each their own.

Your too smart for your own good. You say people like me add these accessories to show everyone they own a MB. I added similar accessories to my BMW and Porsche because that's what I like to do and I like the way it looks. I never tried to embarrass anyone for adding aftermarket items to the car that they own and dress it up the way they want. I noticed that you had to inform me of your Ferrari. It sounds to me that you are into exotic cars for more than performance but just to say I own a Ferrari. I'm going to continue adding accessories that I think will make my cars look good. There's nothing you can do or say to make me change my mind. I guess that if everyone liked the same things, this world would be very boring like the look of your vehicle. To each his own.

I'll give you your props for de-badging the SL (except that you still have an AMG hood emblem), but if you truly want to back your initial comment of asking me if MB pays me for advertising, you must be consistent about removing badges from everything you own or you are a hypocrite. So, if you are wearing any clothes with labels on them- remove them. This includes shirts, socks, drawers, sneakers, hats, etc. Every time you see a manufacturers label on any products you own, you'll know your a phony.

Well, mate it must suck being you. I'm surprised you go along with a user name for an email address. That's a badge. There's medication available for what you've got. I just hope you don't end up hurting somebody or something. Tell me, what it's like driving your no badge, no named vehicles and your forced to be on the road with all those other cars with logo's, edition and type decals? You must hate it.
I was told that these forums have some real winners on them and they were right. People who think the only way is their way and I finally found one. It's a shame because you say the forum does have good people who enjoy the SL for its performance. I have added the Bosch 010 upgrade IC pump, installed the 83mm SC pulley, put in K & N performance filters, and had a stage 2 ECU tune. It may not be as much as you've done, but I've only had the car for 3 months. So, you couldn't be more wrong about me not a red line type of driver. Since I'm on the east coast, I can't bring it to the track because we get snow on this side.
So, with that, I'm not going to continue wasting precious forum space to argue back and forth with someone I don't even know. So that you feel better about your initial post and consequent follow-ups, I'm going to remove all the badges and accessories from my car. It was a pleasure conversing with you.
