IC installation question

I'm confused about the cooling system setup and hope someone can school me.
I'm considering upgrading my IC cooling system by installing the 010 Bocsh pump and the Weistec Engr. dual-pass H/E. It is highly suggested to split the cooling circuit from the engine cooling lines.
Is the stock IC cooling system on an 03 SL55 a split system? I don't think it is, so why is it so important to split it when you upgrade?
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks

No, it's not split from the factory. The purpose of splitting it is so that it has it's own cooling circuit instead of using 200* coolant to try and cool the intake air charge.

When you add a HE to the existing HE, the way they are typically hooked up (not split) is to put the output of the stock IC into the input of the additional HE. Then the output of the additional HE goes into the input of the pump.

Splitting the system requires a new separate expansion tank and separating the engine cooling from the intercooler circuit.

Attached is a picture of the hoses I used to make the connection. Hose parts from Autozone if I remember correctly...
