I read a thread on this forum about the high price for a Brake Job on an SL63. The big cost is replacing the rotors. Obviously I'm old school but, can't brake rotors be turned down instead of having to be replaced? I know my wife's GLE 350 needed front rotors due to a malfunction of one of the calipers. MB did replace the one rotor but wanted to charge me for the other. They told me the rotors cannot be turned down on a lathe. Is that true? If so, is it because of the composition of the metal they use?

Yes, MB dealers do not turn the rotors because of the hardness of the rotor material. They only replace them.
