SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: What to do with my 2008 S63
I love this car. It was my dream car as a kid and I’m very proud of how well I have taken care of it. There was an oil leak at one point that resulted in them replacing the rear main seal and the head bolts. Since then it doesn’t eat any oil and goes all the way between service intervals with no problems. All in all maxcare has dished our around $30k in repairs for various things. All works done at a dealer. The car is in much better shape now than the day I bought it in my opinion. Everything works. Just had a new oem windshield installed. Airbags in seats replaced. Lots of stuff I can’t even recall. Overall the car is in like new condition other than some curb rash on the rims.
But it I am terrified about the warranty expiring. I can’t really afford $10k repair bills. I am hoping I can learn to do things myself and use a local import shop for help when needed. And **shudder** after market parts if I have to. I don’t have a ton of experience working on cars, but I do know how to debug software systems and turn a wrench so hoping some skills cross over.
is my situation hopeless? I could sell the car, but they aren’t selling for much so I would essentially walk away even. It seems so hard to walk away from a car I’ve invested so much in. What would you guys do? I’m pretty sick of a car payment so if I sell it I probably won’t be buying another S class any time soon. What should be the fate of a car like mine?

If you can wrench, then keep it without worry to its value (you said its worth more to you than someone else anyways).
It’s not so much that I can’t afford the repairs, but more looking for opinions on if this could somehow be a financially good move versus paying for a new car.
a lease even for an s460 will run me north of $1300 a month. Does anyone think i could keep this s63 running for less than that? Can an s63 realistically even run up 200k+ miles? 300k+? Would it cost the price of 2 new s65’s to do it? Has anyone ever tried?
When I search I can’t find any examples of m156 engines even with as many miles as mine. Am I already sitting on the highest mileage s63 in existence?
i should also add that I’ve always wanted to supercharge this thing but couldn’t because of warranty, so this could be a fun opportunity. But not really sure if an old m156 can handle it?
Ultimately if it is cheaper yearly to always have a new s class on a lease it wouldn’t make much sense to hold on to this one. But if I can somehow conclude that keeping mine could be a cost saver long term over a continual lease payment, well I would feel a bit better about the decision. Especially if anyone here feels the same.
