"Please Wait" Message

My 2005 SL55 AMG has given me a couple of strange (to me) messages. The left display says "Convenience Functions" and the right display says, "Temporarily Unavailable." I have checked the charge on the trunk battery and it is OK. I have driven the car over 60 miles and the same message appears. If I try to lower the top it doesn't move. The red handle light comes on and I get this message, "Please Wait, See Operator's Manual". There is nothing in my manual to explain any of this..

Can someone tell me what is going on and what should I do next?

Your battery is draining while it sits. A trickle charger, if battery is good, should solve your problem.

When you insert the key into the ignition the vehicle power supply module is determining that the voltage from the rear battery is below c. 10.8 volts.

You checked the voltage on the battery. I would insert the ignition key and measure the voltage on the cables.

If the voltage is fine, then I would suspect the power supply module is faulty. That diagnosis would be confirmed with a diagnostic computer capable of reading data from the module and seeing a gross mismatch between the voltage you measured and the voltage reported by the module.

If the voltage on the cables is low and you are driving the vehicle regularly, then the battery and voltage regulator are suspect. The the next step would be to measure the voltage with the engine running. A low voltage would suggest a faulty regulator; if the voltage is c. 14 volts, then the low voltage on the cables is probably due to a faulty battery.

Time to replace the rear battery, it controls all those functions

SL 55 and a GT 3000 vr4 Here's my car: http://home.online.no/~ludvs/index.cfm
The "Please Wait, See Operator's Manual", means that the rear battery is not charged enough to open the roof.

My thanks to all who responded. Anew battery is needed and on the way. For the immediate future, I have dropped in my AGM battery from my jumper cart. Works great and will do the job while I wait 2 days for the new battery.
