The old rubber-parts-in-the-oil-pump issue
Esteemed Merc owners,
Long time lurker here who rarely find the need to post but now I am stuck like nothing else.
Long story short, I bought an M113k from an E55 to put in the SL since one of my pistons melted... During the rebuild of it I come across pieces of what looks like hardened rubber. They are scattered across the oil pan and stuck in the oil pump as well.
I cant for the life of me figure out where they came from and cant seem to find a gasket that matches.
I am very grateful for any ideas of what might have happend since I am reluctant to fire the engine up without knowing.
Best
Jon

Thank you so much for the reply,
This is what the borescope found, the quality of the pictures is not the greatest... It looks like inner part of the rubber with the numbers on it is still there but the outer part looks like bare metal but its hard to tell.
How important is the rubber for the overall function of the timing gears? I remember seeing other rebuilds where the timing gears looked almost completely stripped of rubber.
