Rear End Traction

For those of you cold weather drivers, just a friendly reminder to be mindful of the rear end stepping out and throttle modulation. Unsure if my RaceIQ Stage 2 tune mitigates T/C, but out cruising today in the Chicagoland area in my SL55 gave me more than a couple exhilarating moments!

I just bought a 2004 SL55 and I’m having it shipped to Chicago where I live next week.

How do you like the race IQ tune? Is that a pulley and tune basically? These M113 K Motors really respond to a supercharger or crank pulley and tune I know.

I will look into a pulley and tune in the spring when the weather warms up as the car will probably sit in the garage for most of this winter since it won’t be a daily driver.

Thanks for your feedback glad to know there’s more SL55 drivers in Chicago!

Nice car. Awesome wheels! I did a “mild” 83mm S/C pulley and ECU tune, as well as upgraded to the Bosch 010 auxiliary water pump. The pulley/tune package is plenty powerful enough for me without requiring any cooling mods. I personally prefer to keep it cosmetically stock. Stay safe out there.

car is gorgeous - looks immaculate!

i'll probably go the same route you did with just the pulley, tune and Bosch pump and call it a day. wanted to keep my SL55 stock as much as possible.

you have a good independent mechanic working on your car? let me know if you have one you like/trust - i have taken my MB cars to MBS Automotive in Northbrook when Rudy worked there but he left so am sorting out indy shops now......

I DIY almost everything since I like to save money and do things right. Great parts are available from FCP Euro, all with a lifetime warranty. My father uses MBS since that’s right down the road from him. For more complexities, I use BnzHaus in Lincolnshire, which is right down the road from me.

same here, i like to DIY what i am capable of (with the help of mbworld members feedback and youtube vids) and love using FCP for parts. their lifetime replacement warranty is legit - i bought a my four brembo rotors and pads for my w212 E63 from FCP and recently had those replaced for "free" by ordering the same new rotors/pads and paid the shipping cost to return the old ones. nice to not have to ever pay for rotors/pads again
