Took my SL in for some warranty work (more about that in a separate post). Miles on ODO was 7700, FSS said "service A in 2300 miles". While it was at the dealer I had them change the oil (on my nickel). I travel a lot, I don't put that many miles on the car, so the oil can set for over a year. I'm uncomfortable with going that long between changes. Figured I wouldn't hit 10,000 till December.
At any rate, after the change, the FSS now says "26 days to service". So, fresh oil accelerated something. I looked in the book and I didn't see any time based components (such as brake fluid change) that would force this message (car was built in December 02).
Since it just had an oil change I really don't want to Service A it in 26 days. I imagine it will ***** at me for being "N days past service A" in another month. I could reset the FSS, but I don't want to.
I plan to just ignore it until I have 10K miles. Any issues doing this (such as warranty)? Any idea why fresh oil would trigger this? Last time I changed oil it did nothing.

It's a coincidence. If the system doesn't call for a service within 1.5 years, the system will go into a day count down mode where it will call for service since the time since the last has been so long.
I would bet you car had been reset at manufacture ~1.5 years ago.
