Radio no sound sometimes

Have a weird problem that I've tried researching and haven't found anyone with the same problem. Most of the time starting the vehicle up I will get no sound from the radio. The more I start it that day the better chance the sound comes on normally. A few times its come on at full volume but only from the rear or maybe the front and just the treble. Just about jump out of the seat before I get it turned off because the volume on the steering wheel or headunit does nothing. The headunit always fires up like normal just no sound. It seems the warmer it is out the better it works. I'm in Wisconsin. Any direction on this? It's an 07 sl55

Good Morning,
I have had similar issues from both my 2005 SL500 and my 2003 SL55.
Not sure what your car has.... mine has the Bose sound system. The Becker system is wire... Bose is fiber optics.
I opted in the cars to install a Kenwood radio. Actually... they are both sitting here ready to be installed! The harness to convert the Kenwood to fiber optics is EMOTIONAL.... $400 !!
One thing to check is the Consumer Battery in the rear. When that battery start losing its charge... the system starts shutting down things.... including the radio.
It may not be a case of warmer... but, battery charge level. Usually the dash will tell you "Convenience Center Unavailable." This means your Consumer Battery is low on voltage.
Just a few thought.....
Best Regards
Mark.

It's actually done it with both the old battery and the brand new one now. Both batteries are new now. Now that's its warmer it does it less now. Let me know how the Kenwood install turns out. I might go that route. I have the bose now with fiber optics. I know the 2007 is slightly different than 03-05 I believe.

i have exactly same prob; radio works mostly after hot start. i have gently wiggled all the wires and fuses in box behind seat, and it does not appear to have made difference. i would try same for two boxes under hood, but prefer to know what is what first, because there is no diagram

It sounds like the amplifier isn't performing like it should. It's the only audio component that I've found to be truly temperature sensitive in the SL's (other than the head unit screen, but that's irrelevant).

yea, took it to benz service hoping for software update or whatever but they suggested amp too, and that other customers solved it thru 3rd party car audio expert nearby

I have an 05 with Bose which would had this issue. It later turned into a message appearing on the head unit "system unavailable" and would shut down. I put it on star and found the issue was a result of the fiber optic loop having an issue. STAR was able to determine it was the satellite radio module that was left in an open circuit. Bought a fiber optic loop from Amazon for $6, and put it on the plug that would go into the satellite module in the trunk and like magic system came back online and everything works great, obviously without satellite radio.
