Starter battery 2004 SL55 AMG
I am looking for first hand experience/resolution.
My 2004 SL55 is always on a trickle charger (one charger for each battery) and I have had no issues for many years. Yesterday, she would not turn over and I got the red battery symbol and "See workshop" (or something like that warning).
I jump started the car no problem and replaced the V4 battery with a new 650CCA one from AutoZone. The car fired right up but I still have the warning/red light. I took it to my very good independent MB mechanic and he said that the code would not clear (he has the STAR system). His battery load tester was broken and being replaced in a few days BUT he said my alternator and courtesy battery were fine. He is guessing that the battery may be old (shelf life) and that leaving on the trickle charger might resolve. I see (after the fact) that the original battery was 800 CCA has anyone run into this?
Anything I can check?

New information/discovery...I found in the owner's manual a passage that says to unhook the courtesy battery (in the trunk) before unhooking the starter battery (under the hood) or "things can happen". I did not do this and am looking for personal experience as to what the fall-out might be?
