SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: 9.67 @144.91mph at Cecil Raceway

All this great effort on the car above and fabulous results are now pounded down by the fact that a soccer mom mobile, an appliance really, a family sedan reasonably priced, can beat it with ease in any drag race.

What the Model S Plaid can do in terms of acceleration is incredible. That said, there is a lot more to driver engagement and driving enjoyment than what happens when you punch the go-pedal.
In any competition, there are classes. People who spend time at the track focus on what they can do with a platform and how far they can improve it.
If you want to complain about EVs, go to OT. The only subject to discuss in this thread is @cnterline's accomplishment with his SL55.

I "hate" the change in automotive World but I also recognize the need for it and adapt like most everyone else.
I drive a B7 Alpina now but will replace it in late Spring with the Sapphire I have a deposit on.
Plus this car only achieves those speeds under the most stringent controled conditions. Have you ever been in one of these Tesla cars? It looks like an empty cabin and someone threw in a tablet glued into the cabin. They don't even give you a full steering wheel anymore..Wouldn't even spend more than 40K on this car
.. 🤣🤣
To me its not how fast a car can I buy (or I would have bought a new Plaid), but how much can I improve a reasonable performance car's speed.
Hence I spent a lot of money for a well built M275 AMG engine with upgraded turbos, spent many hours installing it and solving the many resulting ECU, EIS, SBC and security code problems.
My goal is to get my SL600/AMG into the 10's, partly so that I don't miss my Camaro when I sell it.
Of course, legit drag strips will require a roll cage below 11.5, but even a purposely poor start will have little effect on the trap speed. So I guess a trap speed of 130 mph is my goal.
cnterline's speed is insane.
I have a cle-53 which is sort of quick, you can say it. It's 0 to 60 is 3.6 seconds and quarter mile is 12.1 seconds. It has 449 horsepower with 413 lb of torque; however, and sport Plus motor provides a temporary 10-second increase in torque to approximately 443 lb. It wouldn't measure up the through your V12 though! It's only a twin turbo V6.
Do you know any way I can increase the horsepower and torque on this car legally?
I read about racing chips that are plug and play and supposedly increase the horsepower on torque by 20%. I have read mixed reviews about this. Do you know whether these racing chips work and you know of a specific one that is good? What kind of increase would it provide? if I remove the racing ship prior to taking it to the dealer, would they know something was installed on the car or am I clear?
Do you have any other recommendations as far as increasing the horsepower and torque on this car?.
According to Car and Driver's 2005 test of the SL65 AMG, its quarter mile time was 11.9 at 123 mph and 0-60 was between 3.6 and 3.9, generally traction limited.
I currently have the stock tune in the ECU and I should be able to hit those numbers, especially with a few mods. I just installed new Michelin PS4 summer tires to replace the AS4 all-season tires which spun too easily. After testing the stock tune, I have a performance tune ready to install.
The 12.1 quarter mile time on your CLE-53 is excellent, the all-wheel drive and electric assist surely helps with that. I don't think anyone has a "tune" for this car yet, partly because integrating the engine with the electric assist is very complex. Tunes now re typically done by loading tuning parameters into the ECU, often by OBD2. A few add a module between the engine and the original ECU to modify what the ECU sees and sends. I think that "racing chips" go back to old cars pre about 1998.
In any case, pretty much any tune is "illegal" according to the EPA and states with strict emission testing will often fail the car. For good or for bad, I'm in Michigan which has no auto testing of any type.
I think we are both hijacking this thread. If you want to continue discussion, probably best to start a new one.
