SL55 Trunk "Load Assist" function FIXED (that RED Button in Trunk!)

Had my SL55 AMG for 2 years now and that little RED BUTTON in the trunk never did anything when pressed and it never lit up which led me to believe the "Load Assist" function was clearly not working and likely a complex/costly repair.

The "Load Assist" for those who havent used it before is when you press that little RED button in your trunk (when your roof is open / top down) and it will slightly raise the stored roof in your trunk so you can access the space better.

In my case, the Red button wasnt illuminated and I read on the Benzworld forum that the likely issue is simply the button connector (inside the liner) is loose or detached completely.

You can check and fix this in literally 3 minutes - use a screwdriver to pull up the one square tab next to the Red button, then on the right side remove the one T15 torx small screw. From there you can lift the trim piece to see if the Red button connection needs to be re-connected and if so the Red light should come on immediately indicating its working. There are definitely other issues that could be affecting your roof function but for this specific "Load Assist" situation its worth 5 mins to try this and see if this solves your problem and costs you zero!

Here's a clumsy quick 3 min video of the repair I just did... it is SO NICE having this work finally!!! And I just fixed my trunk soft close by replacing the mechanism so for now all is working 100% in my SL55!

Doesn't yours go up automatically when you open the trunk? I've never had to use that button.
