Top panels flying off.?
Hi Guys, going through the first owner's invoices I see where he had replaced 3 top panels that he said flew off while driving.
The part number for them is the same for either side [230-690-09-41-64-7F08]. He had 2 left and 1 right come off at $400 some bucks apiece..

Anybody else have this happen, and have an idea of what the heck and how is it happening..? Personally, I'd rather spend that money on a tank of Joe's gas.....
This is on a 2005 SL55 AMG. Maybe he was trying for the mythical 202mph with the top down.?

Never had this happen but the plastic can crack over time and I'm sure that'd be the culprit and hey, If the car is tuned and the limiter completely removed then I don't doubt the car can hit 202. I've done 186 (Limited) in my 2007 racing a 2005 Gallardo... The SL pulled on the G. Then both of us got smoked by a Mclaren.

Those panels have a ~1x3" hinged spring-loaded flap in them that often break loose. Usually happens while the top is being raised or lowered, and they often fall down into the trunk. Mercedes only sells that whole panel; you can find repair kits on ebay that are a cheaper solution. Like this one, or this one.
They are definitely NOT the same for left and right.
