My right front bearings catastrophically failed yesterday. My wheels pulled hard to the right then heavy grinding noise. $1,000 tow later and this is what I found:
I had to cut the lower race off of the spindle. I went a little too far and cut into the spindle.
The wheel was tilting enough that it gouged the rotor against the caliper posts so I've got new front hubs, rotors and pads on the way.
Does anyone know what the abs hall effect sensor is actually sensing? There are no spots on the hub for it to sense (like a grating). Is it sensing the bearings?
Yes to the rims but the dust caps still fit and were intact the whole time. I think who ever owned the car before me did not set the end play right and over tightened the bearings. I even took the dust caps off before this happened and saw that there was grease. Normally I redo the bearing grease on a used car but didn't this time, I just looked, and it bit me.
