Trouble with MP3 CDs
I am trying to listen to my mp3 cds in my 05 SL. Do they have to be organized in folders on the CD? Do the MP3s have to be of a certain standard or quality?
I tried the search feature, but had no luck find the answer on this site.
Thanks for your help!

The CD changer will not read MP3 cds. It will read CDs using CD Text.
The single disc slot drive will read MP3s! They dont need to be in folders, but the system will recognize them. Whats more that drive will read a DVD-R- so you can get ~4gb of files in there. The gotcha! part of it is the drive is slow to skip ahead or change folders- so if you do a lot of hunting around it can be a little frustrating- but if you load it up with a lot of favorite songs, you can have a lot of music. This is what Ive done. I have my favorite classic rock on a DVD-R. I just let it play. Ive had the system lock up on me once- I had to eject the disc and reinsert it and then it was fine.
Hope this helps.

Do you think that it is because I only have mp3 files on the disk and no tag files or .nfo files? Some of my discs are colored and most are not. BTW, I did not rip these myself, so I don't know what software was used.
Any more ideas?

Use something like Roxio software to create an "MP3 music CD". Don't just copy the files onto the disc as a data CD.
There is a lot of info on this in the forums for other cars, and it is relative to the SL.

Yes, this is a good suggestion. I would try burning a disc yourself. you dont need other files beyond the mp3 ones. roxio is good software for this. what kind of computer are you using?

MP3 Troubles
I can play a music cd that I burned from MP3s on any player. I thought the advantage of a MP3 CD was that you could play the compressed MP3 files and store your MP3 files in folders on the CD or DVD. Am I wrong?

You are correct. But the CD has got to adhere to certain format rules. The easiest way to do this is to use a software, such as roxio. Specify that you want a MP3 CD and drag the files into the program and setup folders. I use a mac and roxio's toast software and had no problems.

I use iTunes to make MP3 CDs, and it works fine as long as all the files are not organized in folders. If you have a CD with all the MP3 files in the root directory of the CD, things should be fine.

I dont know. I remember seeing a DVD logo on the drive or on the screen when it starts up. I suspect not because the 05s have the newer comand unit, but I could be wrong. Give it a try- worst thing that happens is it just doesnt read. Dont use any kind of adhesive cd label just in case it comes off and gets stuck. Its safer to just use a magic marker on the label side of your disc. Although I know people who use the labels and have had no problems, I am a worry wort.

Eureka!!
I tried on my Dell computer with Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4.0 to create a MP3-CD. It worked. I made a data CD with the MP3s organized in folders. It seems to work well in the E-class. Hopefully, it will work in the SL too.
Thank you for all the assistance.
