I was changing my front brakes and the front post that holds the front lip of the pad was so close to the rotor that when I took it for a test drive it was grinding on the rotor. One side is close and the other isn't. I assumed the pistons would even out so that one side was not compressed more than the other. I had to hammer the posts back so they wouldn't grind on the rotor. Do these calipers not float so that they stay centered?

Is it normal to have to push those posts back so they don't grind on the rotor?

I forgot to mention that I changed hubs and rotors. I seated the hub and checked free play was in spec. Is it possible the hub isn't seated all the way? Wouldn't I notice that while driving or when checking free play? I mounted a dial caliper and tugged as hard as possible.

Something is wrong. The calipers are fixed, you shouldn't have to move the pin. Maybe you have the wrong rotor? I have had more and more issues with companies sending the wrong parts.

It was the hubs. The new hubs are 2mm longer than the old ones and the bearing races are tighter. I had to cut the driver side off. I went back to the old hub on that side and it comes on and off easy. I had to leave the passenger side alone because the old hub was destroyed (it was what started me down the road of replacing the hubs).
Will the passenger side being 2mm wider create any other problems until I can replace it?

I guess it would depend on bearing and race fitting together correctly.

Any idea why hub is 2 mm longer? Did they send you the wrong part or was it a manufacturing deflect? I had an issue with a well know part supplier whose catalogue listed same motor mount PN for SL55 and SL500 but they are actually two different PN's. I had to go back to the vendor catalogue to confirm.
