Smoke

If I park the sl55 for several weeks, when I first start it up I get a big puff of smoke out the exhaust. After that first puff I don't get any more smoke. Even if I park it for only a couple of days I don't get that first puff.

Any ideas what is going on?

More than likely valve stem seals. The seals in all of these engines are rock hard by now, and don’t do much. Unfortunately there are other seals that are made of similar materials that are probable not in good shape.

The oil cooler seals, oil filter housing seal
(relatively easy to replace) front and rear main, and the real important ones are the front cover coolant orings which are costly to replace. When they go bad, they dump coolant into the crankcase, and all of them I have taken out are rock hard and brittle.

I forgot the oil pump oring,

Do you think seal rejuvenation additives would help?

No, the seals I have replaced are brittle and cracked.

I do not experience the same issue BUT a few years back (I have owned my SL55 for ~12 years) I noticed that if I started the car and just like backed the car out of the garage and then turned it off immediately (only running the engine for 10 seconds or so)...the next time I stated the car I would get a little smoke. It turns out that it was explained as "unburned rich" residue. As long as I let it run 20-30 seconds before shutting it down, I have no smoke ever.
