SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: SL55 R230 Specialists in the Surrey/Buckinghamshire area?
I have an unusual case with our SL55, and I would greatly appreciate any advice on whom we can speak to regarding this.
I was driving to Birds in Iver to have a Quaife LSD (differential) installed, and the SL was quite happy until I was driving through Gerrards Cross when the ESP light came on, and I lost power. I pulled over and stopped the car. I tried starting it, and it started but immediately died. This happened five times, so I left it for a minute. It then started fine and drove off with no errors. As soon as it got another mile, the engine had a sensation of losing power but went back to normal, and 20 seconds later, the engine just turned off. It coasted smoothly to a halt, and I had it towed to Birds.
They looked at it, cleared some of the faults, and test-drove it. During the test drive, the car went from zero throttle to full throttle for a few seconds, all on its own. They classed the car as dangerous until the fault was resolved. The error codes suggested that the throttle actuator was at fault. This was replaced, along with the relevant wiring. Although the car is not showing any error codes, it is still unreliable, and the throttle appears to be inconsistent.
Birds is a Quiafe LSD specialist and a Specialist BMW garage, and they are doing their best. However, they are stumped! They would love to chat with a Mercedes SL R230 specialist to determine whether they can resolve the issue sufficiently to allow us to drive the car to that specialist. Else we need to have it towed there instead.
Any help or advice would be gratefully received.
Lionel
