Distronic grill mistake
I replaced my SL55 grill with one from mad hornets and in my infinite wisdom (I didn't even know what distronic was) got a grill that doesn't work with my cruise.
Anyone have a line on just the emblem that will work with distronic ? I have seen talk that the emblem can be modified but can't find the deets.
Prefer not to shell out for another grill.

Interesting info. I have replaced my grill with a cheap one off ebay, but have never tested the Distronic either before or after the grill replacement. I will try it this week and report back.

I tested my cars Distronic cruise control today and it seemed to work correctly. As mentioned above, this is with a cheap $190 grill replacement from ebay.
I say "seemed to work" because this was only the 2nd time in my life I have used a distance based cruise control on any vehicle; I'm not much of a cruise control user.
Today, when I enabled the cruise control while behind a car, a white icon appeared at the top of the speedometer. The dial by the shifter allowed me to control the distance to the car in front; turning it forward brought me closer. When the front car switched lanes, I lost the icon.

Can you post a link to the one you bought please. If you look at the center, the Mercedes star round part should be like a grill so the sensor can see through. Regardless sounds like you were luckier than I was.

The MB start on my grill is very slightly 3D with nothing behind it.
The link to the grille I bought no longer works on Ebay; I might be able to determine the seller later this week.
The closest I could find is this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/146585032286
Although mine is chrome colored plastic.
You might try removing the MB emblem to see that the Distronic then works.

Thanks all, and I was wrong about the correct star yes it's flat plastic. I dug the old grill out of storage and reinstalled and viola distronic works perfectly. Also after an evening cruise around the lake with the top down, can I just say the SL55 at twenty plus years old is simply an amazing car.
