2005 W200

Steering Wheel locked in Park

2008 55SL AMG , 93K miles
Steering Wheel locked in Park, car did not recognize it was in "Park" and won't start
Unable to release steering wheel

this happened twice,, and somehow by a fluke it became unlocked and the car started
However , I was able to get it into "Neutral" and it did start

any ideas for a fix?

I'm suspecting that little piece in the shifter, that's a plastic piece that people replace with an aluminum piece... but I could be wrong.

yes . i though of that,, but the fact that it can shift to neutral suggests that the plastic part is still in tact
and why does the steering wheel lock and not release???

Check underneath that the shifter cable and shifter selector at the trans is still aligned correctly. I had an incident where my shifter bound up and my forcing it resulted in the c-clip that holds the cable on popped off.
