Unless you are intending to leave the car unused for a very long time, you don't need to put a trickle charger on the Starter Battery. It has absolutely minimal static current drain so you're only dealing with the internal drain. 3 months should be fine. The consumer battery is a different story and will start giving trouble after 2 or 3 weeks. The CTEK charger is ideal to keep the battery topped up and you do not need to disconnect the battery. I have a cable connected to the battery via a 10A fuse which I just plug the charger into when I am leaving the car. Convenience and ease of connection is key. You can buy such as cable from a CTEK supplier. You want one with eyelets which can attach directly to the battery cable clamps.
From memory, the Consumer Battery is something like 70A/Hr and while there are more powerful chargers to charge the battery, you do not need one to keep it topped up. In fact, I have used a 0.8A CTEK charger and it works fine.
