Engine cooling fan stays on
My 2013 SL63 started doing something strange that it has never done before. I was wondering if those of you with SL63's have seen this:
After driving for maybe 20 miles, upon turning off the motor, the main engine cooling fan turns on and runs at full blast. After about 5-10 minutes it finally turns off. Ambient temp in the 50s. The car did not do this for the first year that I've had it. Does not happen on short around town drives. I do not drive the car hard....just regular freeway miles.
I've had the car at the dealer and they can't find any error codes, although this pretty quickly burns down the main battery.
Does your SL63 do this?
Thanks,
Mark

it might do it on hot days when the car temp is hi and it may run after you shut off. That would be a temp sensor or water temp system. May be a relay sticking on. The dealer should be able to replicate it by running the car. Maybe they dont want to try.

It should be pretty easy to track down. Unplug the sensors until you find the one that shuts it off. If none shut it off, then look for a relay.
Really though, the dealer shouldn't expect this to throw a code. At least it doesn't seem that way to me.
If it's warranty, then make them track it down and fix it.

The service manager drove the car home. Put lots of miles on it. Fan did not stay on and no engine light.
So, they went to put the car in the garage waiting for me to pick it up....the check engine lamp came on!
They did find one code indicating a low voltage condition at the transmission connector. They decided to replace the battery in the trunk.
I did have one time since then that the fan came on. But it turned off after 5 minutes. No additional check engine light.
Maybe it just needed a new battery. Also, maybe the fan comes on normally, but when it does, the engine is not hot! So a bit confused.
Will drive for a while and then see what happens.
