R231 rear trunk lid Carbon Fiber SCAM
Has anybody, besides me, figured out this scam yet? Whats one of the first things they tell you about the 231? its got a CF trunk, to save weight? I had to do some work on my car and took the rear trunk padding off, to see a opening in the middle. The carbon fiber ends and you see the real trunk, looks odd to be 2 pieces and definitely solid material, not CF. So exploring further I scrape off some paint and find Fiber Glass ! So the complete outer trunk is fiberglass and the inside panel is CF. If you look in the due or frost you can see the bonding lines, glue lines, on the top face of the trunk. I had plenty of experience with that in my old fiberglass days. Dont know why even the MB sales man and reviewers would be so uninformed and irresponsible to misrepresent such an odd feature. Maybe the only point is to make the trunk rigid, but with both FG and CF it looks like just a aluminium trunk would have been lighter.
