the sl is going to be changed in the next year or so. Mercedes is going back to what SL (super light) meaning. It's difficult to understand why it took so long but I guess the hardtop convertible was such a good looking all around car that it's kind of understandable. So the new one (there's spy photos on this website) has a cloth top and is more like what the old sl was back in the day (maybe cheaper, more sporty but probably less fast). Makes sense for the GT roadster is incredible and it has the 4.0 biturbo which has been put into all 63's except for the SL even the S coupe has the 4.0 liter motor now. Man it sucks that one last SL could have the 4.0 liter motor could you imagine having it tuned to 1000 hp and still get 20 something mpg on the highway?

Doing away with the hardtop is a mistake, it's one of the main reasons I purchased my 230 AMG series.

Soft tops are just too noisy, never will overcome issue.Weight on the other hand can be mitigated with more hp and tq.

No thanks, that look reminds me of the Nissan. 2+2? Again, no thanks. Rag top? A step backwards, and not a good one. The 2019 SL63 is my first AMG model (I had a 2009 SL550) and I’m sure glad I finally got one.

I still like the look/design. Reminds me of an F-type to be honest.

However it's so drastically different from the hard tops, it would actually make sense to have 2 variants of it rather than rid the hard top all-together. It is what it is I guess.

I test drove both prior to purchase of the sl63.......loved the ride and crisp handling and hard top convertible,,,,I am a convert from last porsche I just sold....

the amg gt was a precise rough riding monster, but then again it IS made for the track....reminded me of the dodge viper my friend had .....love the sl63 .....

I've owned both the SL and the GT-S, and have driven both as a daily and at COTA on the track. If you want something fun that feels like a go cart, get the GT, but if you're like me you won't want to take it on a trip. The SL checks all the boxes for me. Plenty fast, handles great for a street car, more storage space, and you can drive it cross country and remain comfortable.

AMG GTs are for crushing lap times. SLs are for crushing continents. The GT moniker is being misused by industry marketers. "GT" is an acronym. It actually stands for "Grand Touring"...something that the AMG GT is, frankly, not ideal for, while the SL is specifically designed for that purpose. These are both great cars...it just comes down to what your priorities are. I know there are people who have to have an AMG, and the GTs are fine cars...but personally, if I felt that I needed to do what a 911 will do, I'd get a 911. But that's just me...

And the Victor Von Frankenstein award goes to…
Or maybe it was just an AED resuscitation?
That reminds me of some shows like Futurama, where they save old people’s heads submerged in a bell jar, which is only a partial resurrection!
