I run with my dragy 3.6 0-60 time is my best with my 2018 SL63... I have taken it to the drag strip twice.. I ran it 3 times my first time out, and never ran over a 12 second quarter mile.. 11.94 was my worst, my best the 2nd time I was out I ran a 11.47 at 126.6 mph. The car is serious fast, and I have raced a guy in a 2017 Nissan GTR, (on the highway with no cars around), and off the line he is quicker, but I pull on him at higher speeds and can pass him... but by then we are well over 130 mph.... I have never lost a higway pull against another car.. ever. But then there are faster cars just more rare I expect.. I also out pulled a E63S wagon, I guess 2018 or 2019 model year.. I was faster from 60 mph to our final speed (he let off because I was ahead and getting further ahead)..
That's a very fast time for a stock SL63. Did you buy the car new?
You probably have discovered this by now but if not RennTech has 2 versions of the SL63 231 ECU. One tunes for use with 91 Octane and the other tunes for 93 Octane with corresponding differences in performance increase. I remapped my ECU using the 93 Octane version and was amazed at the seat of the pants performance improvement. It also took about 5 minutes to do myself.
Hello all! I just bought a 2017 sl63. 3900 miles. Several questions if you don't mind: 1. What should I look out for.. weak spots?
2. What should I have checked before the warranty runs out in about 6 months?
3. Do the plug in tunes void all warranty?
4. Which plug in tunes have proven to be better?
5. Which professionally provided stage I and stage II tunes have proven good?
6. How much hp/tq more, over various tunes, do downpipes provide? Is turbo lag in stock condition normal? If not, what is the fix?
7. How much does intake mods help?
NOTE: It's my only car and I want it to remain as comfortable as it is as a daily driver. I don't want it to be any louder also.

Great choice, after 3 years and 9500 miles I have had no problems and throughly enjoy driving my SL63. To try and answer your questions;
1) No weak spots that I have found, except care in approaching or leaving moderately steep driveways as the front Cunard is low to the ground.
One thing you might check is that for the SL63 it is recommended that the rear end oil be changed at as I recall 1500 Miles. There are threads discussing this and some controversy relative to th need, but I did have mine changed at 1500 Miles. You might check the service records to see what the previous owner did and if it was not,
you can decide if you want to do that as part your next service.
2) I have my car service by my MB dealer annually and to date there have needed been nothing but routine service, so I can't suggest anything to be checked before the warranty expires.
3) There are lots of discussions on this and other Forums regarding the Warranty and ECU Tunes. My dealer does RennTech Tunes. My opinion is that unless the somehow the Tune can be connected with a problem you would have a strong case that the problem is covered under the Warranty. Others out there may have some factual examples to either confirm or my opinion of not,
4) Again there are lots of opinions, as noted in my original post I did the RennTech 93 Octane Tune and the performance results are amazing.
5) I did the complete RennTech R1 Tune and am very pleased. I am considering the RennTech R2 next but one part of it is an Exhaust change that will increase sound volume which you indicated you did not want
6 & 7 ) There is a very slight turbo lag in the stock Tune that improves slightly with RennTech R1 Tune. In either case it is very slight and I don't consider it a problem. The RennTech Website can give you performance improvement versus Tune options

Man I really like the look of that car with the top up, heck I'm considering one with hardly any intention of driving it with the top down. However I really have my sights set on a W213 E63s but I need to drive the SL to see if I could live with a coupe type car again.
Every time I read something else about this car it starts to complicate my decision about getting a W213 E63s AMG. Gotta get b hind the wheel of one first.
I will say this: Even in comfort mode, it rides like a rock on rough road. Brick streets (old and poorly maintained by the mayor and his crew) in Orlando, are not fun. Yes, I know it's a performance car and it looks great to some. On a smooth road, it's fine. But, I just left a 2017 S-6 that although did not handle like a gocart like the sl63, it was much more forgiving in the comfort mode. I'll be replacing the run flats with more comfy tires when they wear out. Maybe after a stage one, I'll forget about it too.... if I can keep tires on it and stay out of jail! I'm 67 yrs old, but I still enjoy "breaking the laws" in safe areas, on a lonely stretch of road, etc. And I enjoy the G's from red light to red light.... within the speed limit of course and when there is no risk of hurting someone. I do miss the stability of all wheel drive and the heads up display of the S-6!
On a different note, so many reviews stating different 0-60 numbers and HP/TQ ratings. My sticker says 577/664. Most reviews say 4.1 to 60, the one above says 3.5, others say 3.9. What's in a few tenths of a second I guess, but I would like to know. I need to learn how to modulate the accelerator in order to get the best performance without just spinning the tires off of it! Hints of how to best do this please? Not a worry on the S-6, but I never had a 2 wheel dr car with this much power!
hmm you are right the graphs have been monkeyed with, always torque and hp should cross at 5250 , I think this is not rwhp but calculated and regraphed…..even the alleged rwhp of stock was over 550 hp , not....even though I would love to think that was true!!
Yeah, I'm confused a bit as stock (as per registration documents) is rated at "max. net power (kW) = 430". So when converted = 585hp? Is it true?

The confusion was why andy-gt questioned stock being over 550hp as perhaps unbelievable - not sure what he was getting at? Am I really missing something here? At the end of the day the car goes like the clappers and thats all that matters to me. When you have a car of this power a couple of hp won't make any difference when you're up against a Ferrari or Porche since its all about driving skills and they usually bottle out at about 160mph.

Before I started modding my 2013 SL 63 AMG with P30 Performance Package I had it dyno’d on a mainline pro hub dyno. Stock numbers were 520whp and 626wtq.
After a few tunes I’ve finally settled with the Eurocharged E85 tune with a 50/50 mix. She’s still stock other than the tune. And here’s the dyno sheet from that tune. Pretty nice jump. Shows what these motors are really capable of.
The mainline pro hub bolts right to the axel hubs so there’s no percentage lost on the tire to roller connection. Looks like dyno jet you have to be strapped in.
