Quote: Just now finished pulling in all R230 SL65 data. Some interesting tidbits for the R230 SL65:
  • The first R230 SL65 was delivered in 2005, though there were 2 built in 2004 designated as "Factory Sales"
  • There was a total of 3043 R230 SL65s delivered over years 2005 through 2011, none were delivered in 2012
  • There was a total of 402 Black Series SL65s delivered over years 2008 thru 2011.
After a lot of searching and scraping, and thanks to @VRV000 , final totals for R230 production:
  • There was a total of 3053 R230 SL65s delivered over years 2005 through 2011, none were delivered in 2012 (just 2 short of published number in Brian Long book)
  • There was a total of 403 Black Series SL65s delivered over years 2009 thru 2010.
We've searched high and low and consider these numbers to be final for the R230. The "missing" two vehicles were likely early prototypes that never made it into MB's records.

Note: "year" in the database is model year and not year of production. A very large portion of the cars for a model year are actually produced in the prior year.

@jmattioni As you know, I have a slightly different take on the missing cars. The Germans are too **** to just ‘miss’ a few cars. I have been able to account for all of the 169,434 cars (in one form or another) except for the ‘missing 11’. There are 11 cars missing in the 139-141k serial number range, based on all of the online sources. This means their production dates lie somewhere in the late 2007 to early 2008 range, which coincides with the time that MBZ was producing the MY09 ‘squarenose’ pilot vehicles. I can reconcile to production numbers in the Brian Long book with the following exceptions- I am short of 2 SL65s, 5 SL600s (77 sub), 1 SL63, 1 SL280/300 and 2 SL350s (58 sub). This makes up the 11. So yes, they probably were pre-production cars, but from the MY2009 update, rather than from the start of the line. Thanks for your help with my end of the project- it was a real timesaver for me.

Quote: Beautiful color combo! Here are the Build Sheet and Stats Report from my database for your vehicle.

According to my data there were only 7 more SL65s delivered to the US after yours before production shut down. From the Stats Report you can see that in the 2018 model year there were only 48 SL65s shipped worldwide and 22 in US. Rare indeed!
Joe, amazing work - I am kicking myself for not ordering a last SL65 in 2018 - I just didn't realize they were going to shutdown production...

Hi Joe, can you please check my VIN also? It is WDDJK7KA7GF040795 and recently bought it. I'd happily buy another low milage SL65 if I can find one...

thanks...

@VRV000 is there a way for you to DM me here? I can't seem to figure out how to do it
