valve stem contacting brake wear sensor
investigated clicking noise in right front tire.
found valve stem contacting part of brake wear sensor and sensor wire (stripping the insulation to bare wire)
asked Discount Tire for a shorter valve stem, said it is the shortest one they have. said Mercedes may have smaller ones.
Anyone ever run into this issue?
rim valve stem damaging break wear sensor with each rotation

Here are a picture of the wheel showing the valve stem and brake caliper on my SL65. I took this first because I was in the R231 forum. I then realized the picture showed a post facelifts R230 so I took the same picture on my 2009 R230 SL600. Both have factory wheels, the red calipers are on the R231 SL65. There is no way any valve stem of any length can contact anything behind the wheel spokes. Perhaps your SL65 has aftermarket wheels with a different valve stem location. I also looked at the wheels on my S65 and E63S and they have the same valve stem placement as the wheels in the two pictures.
By the way, if the black car is a 2005 per the picture caption it has been totally rebuilt with post facelift parts.

Thanks for taking the time to take the pics.
You are correct on all fronts after market rims with front facelift,
My valve stem is on the rear side facing inward.
I only have 3 AMGs.
You must be independently wealthy to maintain 4.
Once again thanks,
Shawn

The valve stem on my R231 SL65 is 1 1/4" long and is the one installed at the factory. The stem on the 2009 measures as 1", but as you can see from the picture, the bottom of the valve stem may be hidden by the wheel design. Those were installed by the MB dealer when they installed new tires.
I still owned a 2005 for several years after we bought the 2009. I remember looking at them side by side and concluding it would be way too much work and too many parts to get rid of the 2005's peanut style headlights and add a single fin grill. Congratulations to you on completing that swap.
