Ordered Renntech R1 package

Ordered Renntech R1 package
Love the SL63. However, I came out of a 911 Turbo S so I'm missing a little of the effortless punch from a roll that the 911 had (from a dig, no comparison and no way to match the grip of that 911).
So, going with the R1 package from Renntech. I ordered it yesterday so anxiously watching the mail and am planning to install the hardware myself.
I'll provide an update on progress and thoughts on the upgrade. Looking forward to 700hp and 800 lb/ft of torque!

Got the install done - took me about 3 hours but I was taking my time and kept getting distracted by dogs etc, so probably could have done it in an hour and a half if I had concentrated. Overall install was pretty easy - there is one bolt/clamp at the bottom of a pipe directly into the coupling to the turbo charger - it is easy to see, but difficult to reach. This took 15-20 minutes playing around with different fittings and socket extensions to finally get loose and then retighten. Everything else is very easy access. And the software update takes a couple of minutes.
Results: the standard car already has too much power (too little traction?) at low speeds, so not much difference there. Two biggest improvements - 1) there is absolutely no power dip when going up fast thru the gears. it is just continuous thrust. 2) the power from 70mph great, from 90mph awesome! the car really pulls hard deep into triple digits (I took it up to 170 on one run). According to my butt dyno - there is not much if any difference between my prior 911 Turbo S and this car from a 70 mph roll on.
Bonus - there are some wastegate release noises when you get off the throttle quickly. it's a little 'Fast and Furious' but not too objectionable.
Badges - Renntech included a few badges for the outside of the car ("powered by Renntech") but I think I'll leave them off. Stick them on the work bench or car lift. No reason to advertise.
Overall, I'm very happy with the results. For $4k, the addition of the horsepower versus price seems reasonable and is very noticeable.

Happy to hear your results. I had RennTech on my 2015 SL 550, and the performance was as you described. I got mine up to 155 mph, but I ran out of road. Just took delivery of my 2017 AMG SL 63, and the RennTech tune is going to be my first order of business. Glad to hear that it is going to be as expected.
