Missing ngine cover star

Well it gone to the black hole where all the other socks go.

Odd the rear mesh was still sitting on the engine cover but the Star has gone, it was there in the Spring but later when checking the oil I thought something looks odd............ next time I realised what

Mercedes, as other have written do not sell the badge alone and as many seem to just disappear and the parts said at least £500 for the whole thing it is a great money spinner for Mercedes
As I still have that rear silver mesh what other Mercedes model engine cover has that Star its about 75mm diameter?

Then maybe I can remove it and fit it to the cover I have as second hand covers are not expensive but cannot find a R231 engine cover on eBay etc in the UK

It needs replacing as it just spoils the whole engine bay

Must be a market for getting a plastic printer company to make some but I guess Mercedes would have a fainting fit over copy write and you would need one to give them

So what

Yep...what I did was buy a hood ornament, cut off the circle, polish the bottom of it and glued it in...

Hi Manofmyage

I take it by hood ornament you mean stands up in the air motif like this

https://mercedesgenuineparts.co.uk/p...et-star-chrome
rather than a bonnet badge?

I had wondered about an AMG bonnet badge just to be flashy like this so I could bolt it to the cover

https://mercedesgenuineparts.co.uk/p...go-a0008170408
But I don't know the diameter but can ask

Your solution appeals as I have the mesh....... are they 75mm dia as the old cover badge

MUTTER all I need to now is work out how to edit to original to put the E in *ngine (sigh)

I had the same problem after my last service. I've taken the beauty covers off so there is less cooking.

As an enthusiast, you do want to see the actual engine and not a cover so might not be a bad idea.

We its more than a fancy bling cover its also a water splash guard a lot of the terminals have the loom sort of the clips and exposed wires and solder. As you could keep goldfish in the headlamps some water defiantly going to get in there

It traps a lot of heat though, I do notice on turbo charged models, there is a channel where the cover actually routes air to the turbos: https://mbworld.org/forums/c450-c43-...r-channel.html

Goldfish in head lamps is kind of cool so the unit is still sealed enough so the water doesn't leak out and kill the fish?

Pretty cool actually I guess the water entered from the top and it won't drain from the bottom hence why it works: https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/319407...oldfish-in-it/
