SL65 Black Series....It's Coming!!!!!!

My dealer told me tht I could do Euro delivery if I wanted.
In some states it is an issue for car dealers to take non-refundable deposits. Delaers can ask for anything they want but I have found it really didn't matter other than for the SLR I bought. That was a mess but it was due to all of the pre sales opportutnities that you were invited to.....

You are correct. "Non-Refundable" is definitely a lock on a unit. There are a lot of people out there that will leave a "non-refundable" deposit on a car thinking that if they want to back out, they will get it back. I just don't understand why people go though that. Any deposit that I take on a vehicle to take off the market and mark sold, is "non-refundable." I make sure people a very AWARE of the meaning "non-refundable" and if they are uncertain, do not leave it.
You are correct, there is not a Euro Delivery for the SL65BLK.

I would rather have better performance from reduced weight than a convertible. And that roof does make a big difference, especially since its a retractable hardtop. Besides, its a Black Series, why would you want to drive with the top down? It's a track car, not a cruiser.

As I understand the situation, SL65 BS cars are being held at VPC due to the fact that the testing software for required for EPA clearances has not yet arrived. So, the release date of 1/22/09 may, or may not, be realized. It just means that more cars will be in the initial release. However, I don't think anything was shipped from Deutschland while they were on their hard-times shut-down (I think they started working again on 1/12/09).

Been there, done that!!! Official dates come and go like commuter trains. But I hope they can release cars on their "OFFICIAL LAUNCH DATE." If they can't get the cars thru the Feds, who cares what date they quote.

That's not the point I'm trying to make....wow....somebody seems to know it all... Oh, and your info. about software is not true. As you should know, any special launch of ANY vehicle has to get certification from Germany before release. That is why they are VPC delayed. I spoke with distribution this morning..

Amg_Black if u don't mind me asking.....How much are they asking you because I asked one of the regular sales reps at MB Encino and he said they don't know the price till it arrives at the port and claim that they have already sold the first one at 400k (I presume that is you)? Now they don't know that I can get the real info from the GM who I know pretty well but I am just curious as to what games they are playing with buyers for these deals.
Thanks

Dictator is right about MSRP @299k. They are still working out the destination and delivery. It currently says $2750, but that may change to $2950. We should find out on Thursday. Not really so sure about the whole "buy at MSRP" deal. I have secret shopped quite a few dealers, and nobody is selling them at MSRP. I could be wrong, but it does not make sense to do that yet. The car isn't even out yet, not even released.

Trying to prep my trailer for arrival of SL65 BS. Does anyone know the actual front spoiler to ground clearance??? I forgot to measure and it seems MB doesn't want to advertise it. So, I suspect I'll have to make some ramps to handle the attack angle and increased weight of the car.

I received an email today from MBUSA stating that there will be a delay in the release of the SL65BLK. There will be an update next week. Talking with distribution, they feel it will still be released this month. There are some modifications that need to be done to the vehicles that AMG did not expect.

I wasn't trying to be the only one who has the inside information. For the record, your information was incorrect, sorry. That is not the reason the vehicles are delayed at the VPC. I'm sure there are a lot more people than me that know information on this car or any. I'm just here to help out and provide any service that I can

I don't know why you think that a VIP allocation is meaningless.
In my case, I was very pleased to find that certain people within Mercedes-AMG in Germany, as well as MB USA, took the time to see that I was able to get a CLK63 Black Series, close to the initial launch of the model.
I really respect the enthusiasm of the people from Mercedes-AMG. They showed themselves as true car people who really understand the enthusiasm that one can have for a car.
I have enjoyed the special experience of taking delivery of another Mercedes-Benz for my wife in Germany. And while that was wonderful, nothing will compare to finally receiving my CLK63 Black Series here in the U.S. Every time that I hear the engine fire up, it brings back the memories of all of the people who were involved in helping me obtain this car.
It has made a special experience even more enjoyable.
I wish I could afford to repeat the experience with an SL65 Black Series . . .

Hello again to MBWESTMINSTER. If you read all the words of my two posts that you chose to ridicule ("....wow....somebody seems to know it all..."), you would have realized that I began the first one with "As I understand the situation...". Hardly a pronouncement of fact!! As to my second post concerning cars not being released from VPC, regardless of the "Official Launch Date," it does seem that I was right on target. Dealers and sales people, such as yourself, don't really know if the info MB provides you is accurate or otherwise. It's marketing and PR. So, when you say that you know software is not the culprit, do you really? Or, did your guy at distribution just say that it wasn't?
Finally, I've got two bucks and a box of Cracker Jacks to wager that your client will not receive the first car delivered to the public!!!
P. S. For anyone wanting to know, the ramp angle of an SL65 BS is supposed to be 7.4 degees. fully loaded with luggage, passengers, and fuel. Estimating the position of the wheel relative to the front bumper, I am guessing the front ground clearance to be less than 3.5".

I never ridiculed you...you were the one that said that I knew it all...Is this really relevant at all? Really? So I guess I'm getting lied to, just like you, when MB sends me an email directly explaining the situation, right? This is sill asp...come on....
