SLK/R170: Replacement key

Replacement key
Hi. I am a new member to this very interesting forum, as I just purchased a 2001 white SLK·230. I hope someone can help me. I need a replacement key as the car I bought only came with one and here in Mexico City where I live Mercedes Benz charges me 200 dollars plus tax for one. Could you tell me if I can order the key elsewhere or if the price is correct? Thanks

Did you buy your car used from a mercedes dealer? If you do, go to your sales person and ask him to order you a masterkey for free. Normally, they should give you 2 masterkeys and 1 valet key.
If you get your car from a private seller or used car lot, I guess you really have to order it from Mercedes out of your own pocket

2001 and previous SLK should come with 4 keys: 1 master flat key, 1 valet flat key, and 2 remote switchblade keys.
The remote switchblade keys cost $130 at my dealer in Phoenix the last time I checked, and it takes 2 weeks to get it after you order.
