wheel sizes

i bought my 98 slk 230 used, the previous owner apperatnly bought some bbs wheels for it, they are getting tired looking. the tires are still good, they are 225/40 rz 18 , i dont know jack about wheel or tires sizes, what wheel sizes are compatible for these tires? what does 225/40rz18 mean?

BBS wheels are wicked

I'll use your example for my explanation.
225 / 40 / 18 / RZ

225mm wide.
40% of your width is equal to your side wall, or the side of the tire.
18" diameter rim.
RZ is your load and speed rating. I can't remember what RZ is specifically though.

Depending on how the previous owner setup the car, I'm not sure what to say. He might have been running very wide with a VIP look, therfore using a stretched tire. Or he might have been going for that dragger look with a very wide tire on a skinny rim.

Do you know how wide those BBS rims are?

no actually i dont, and there is no info on the rim, ill see if i can find them online, by the way, thanks for the explanation!

yeah, they look great but the road rash has put a beatin' on em'.i wonder if its possible to repair them, and maybe have them painted a gloss black.sorry i dont have a cam, but i will search for them online.

Good luck man, you might be able to get them repaired depending on the extent of the damage. As for painting them, good luck with that as well!

7.5" or 8" wide x 18" would be fine with that size tire. Make sure you get the right off-set, ET31 to 35. OEM wheels have the width and off-set stamped on the inside and most good aftermarket wheels do too. The off-set, labeled as "ET" is important so that they don't rub.
