Check Engine - Car is on, but won't move?

Hey guys,

Long time reader, but first post. I have checked the forum for this problem, but have found nothing similar. I have a 2001 SLK320 Auto with about 54K miles on it. I am a second owner and bought the car with about 30K miles on it. Warranty expired.....

I started the car this morning and waited my usual 5-10 minutes to get it warmed up before I put it in gear and headed out to work. I placed the car in reverse and stepped on the gas, but the car felt sluggish. Even with the pedal all the way down, the car would not accelerate. I put in Drive and the same thing happened. It will get to about 1500RPM, but no more, even with the gas at full throttle. I turned the car off and on several times, but the problem persisted.

After a few seconds, the Check Engine light came on. I turned off the car and will take the car to get serviced this afternoon.

Any takes on what the problem may be? Also, any good Mercedes repair stations in Raleigh, NC? Or should I take this to the dealer?

Thanks in advance,

Alex

Always read to codes to see what the Check Engine Light is telling you.

It could be your MAF and the engine control doesn't know how much air is getting in. Or your fuel filter could be plugged.

1st. Are you sure the parking brake was off?
2nd. Are you sure the brake actually released?
I have seen other cars where the parking brake 'stuck' and wouldn't allow the car to move. Had you just washed the car? the discs rust quickly and could prevent the wheels from rolling and as soon as the engine notices ANYTHING wrong, the 'check engine' light will come on.

It appears that it was the accelerator throttle sensor that was malfunctioning. They ordered a new part and it should arrive Friday. $400 installed. I thought that was reasonable. It appears that I need new tires, and a service call. A bit more than I had anticipated, but not bad.

Does anyone have experience with the Michelin Pilto Exalto A/S tires on the SLK? They seem to be pretty good for the money and the tread wear is excellent.

Thanks,

Alex
