Has anyone installed a body kit themselves?
I am thinking about buying the AMG kit for my 99 SLK but I was wondering if I could install it myself to save some $$$. Has anyone done it? If so, can you post some comments/experience etc.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

I haven't done it before but i can tell you that the front and rear bumper are very easy to remove. The side rocker panels on "sport" Slk are very hard to remove and install because they use bondall to glue the panel to the body, not like in 2001 "sport" model where they used screw and clip to hold it to the body.

Any chance to buy it cheaper?
Thank you for the information, its good to learn about more alternative dealers about this subject.
My question is :
Buying from another dealer means you pay more. Why do i pay for an additional profit .The price seems reasonable for AMG but i still believe that it is possible to buy that bodykit cheaper from somehwere else.
Any direct sales from AMG?do you know the european sales branch?
In additon to that i would like to know if any of you know some replica AMG bodykit producers , dealers?
Thanks!

I dont know if buying a replica bodykit is the way to go. Especially since it is not a moulding that you add on to the car. Since you have to change the actual front and back bumpers I'd probably feel much safer with a genuine tuner. If you want to get a replica, I know there are a bunch of guys in Indonesia and Singapore who make them. You can probably do a search on the internet.
Actually I think the kits are rather expensive for the SLK compared to that of say the new C-Class (W203).
Thanks for everyone's comments/feedback. The rockerpanels that glue on are rather distressing. I was hoping that they would just bolt on so they could be easily removed as my car is leased.

Well, you can install it your self, but are you going to paint it your self?
I think it is cheaper and better to have a bodyshop do everything, this way, if something ever comes loose, you can always take it back...
And Replica SLK kits are a very BAD idea.... I should know, I got 1!!!!
