Radar system

I am the happy new owner (December, '05) of a 1999 slk 230. I bought the car at a MB dealer, who ran me through a very quick description of the controls. I was only listening with one ear, thinking that I would read the owners manual later (my mistake). One set of knobs on the left side of the steering wheel was explained as the built-in radar system, with one setting being for highway and one for city. I have been unable to find anything anywhere (including the owners manual or the internet) concerning this, and would appreciate it if anyone can shed some light on this.

A built in radar detector? Do you have a picture of the controls? It sounds like the last owner may have installed it or the dealership added it.

Definitely not factory installed, there is no such thing. Like mentioned above, if you post a picture of the controls someone may have the same system installed and give you some pointers or at least lead you to the manufacturer's web site.

I'll try to get some pictures posted. The batteries in my camera were dead, and are in the process of being recharged.

heres the pic. the 'rear' knob (upper right corner) seems to be a 2 position switch, while the front (elongated) knob just turns (possibly to adjust sensitivity). also the three red lights appear to somehow be connected to the system. any ideas?

Thanks. After going to that website, it sure looks like that may be the "ticket" so to speak. The k-40 info only shows 2 red leds, instead of 3, but everything else seems to be the same. Maybe the 3rd led is a laser band.
