problem with roof
I bought this car as a salvage and I know I'm expected to have some problems but I was wondering why my roof wont go down.
Yesterday I was raising the roof and it made a weird noise like something cracked. now when i go to lower it then red light blinks quickly. What am I doing wrong?

Hi,
I had a similar problem once - one of the flat metal guides fixed to the roof that normally slides into a rubber-encased opening on the bottom came loose as one of the two screws holding it in place fell off. I simply re-attached it, problem fixed.
Otherwise, the various microswitches that coordinate the roof actions come to mind. They're known to fail over years.
I suggest to see a dealership, though, if obvious loose parts don't seem to be the cause.

The car manual shows in detail a process to open and close the roof by hand. I would try to follow it and see if there is anything loose, cracking, stuck or obviously wrong before trying the hydraulics again. My roof had a problem like that one day, it just would not open. Dealership fixed it under warranty but it took them two weeks. They claimed that somebody from Germany had to visit the dealership to fix two SLKs with the same problem. They never gave me a straight answer regarding the root cause but they mentioned microswitches a lot.
