problem with central locking button

Hi, ive done some searching for my problem but cannot find anything similar. please help me out.

It seems something is at fault with the central locking button. When pressed to lock the doors, I can hear the pump go, yet the small plactic bums on the doors do not move down. However if I push these down, thus start in the locked position and press the button they do come up(unlock). So what is a miss that they will only go up and not down???

Thanks for your help guys,
ROB

Check the PSE Pump for water damage.
Common problem.

Right side of the trunk behind the jack encased in a foam block.

Open the foam and feel for water.
Pull off the electrical connectors and check for corrosion.
Open the bottom of the pump and see if the circuit board is damaged with corrosion.

If the board is not too bad it can be cleaned with electronics cleaner and a tooth brush to remove the corrosion.

Clean the trunk drains out.

Put everything back.

further update - still a problem

ok so now ive had my slk 200 for a little while the only thing bugging me still is the central locking. the locking mech/vacuum must be working as the car locks fine with the remote key. So I'm guessing its the dashboard switch. nothing happens when I press the top half of the buttom. It does however put the locks up(unlock) when the bottom half of the buttom is pressed.

Are these switches easy to swap out DIY style?

thanks folks.

Do you have a manual? I don't have mine handy, but what you describe may be normal. You may need to have the key in the ignition to lock with the dashboard switch. I think the idea is to allow you to lock the doors while you are in the car, but not to allow another person to lock you out. Or something like that.

Hey ROB!

I just went out to my car and actuated the locks with the toggle switch and they worked up and down (w/o the key in the ignition). I just thought I'd let you know that for a "known good" reference.

There is a note in the operator's manual that states the doors and trunk can only be locked by the central locking switch (toggle) if both doors are closed. Hope this helps.

Unhappy thanks...

ok guys thanks for your help. So maybe there is a problem with the doors. The car may think that one of the doors is not closed - thus not allow me to use the toggle switch to lock the doors.

I hate to do it, but I guess its a job for the dealer to investigate
