squeaky top! flexing hood
Howdy all,
I have a 2001 slk with about 80000 miles that i bought a few months ago.I love the car with the top down but with it up the squeaking is pretty annoying. Is the a normal price of admission? Also my hood seems to flex quite a bit at freeway speed. my carfax report was clean but Who knows?
Any ideas?

The roof squeaks are most often dirty rubber seals, clean them with Lexol Vinylex or something similar. The seal around the top of the windshield is a major culprit. Keep the seals very clean, and the areas that they contact.
The hood should NOT flex. You may need an adjustment of the hood stops on either side of the outer edges of the hood. (They are actually on the radiator bulkhead.) Check and see if the hood moves when you lightly push on the sides near the front, if it does the adjustments are easy enough to make, there should be a slight preload on the hood, but not so much that you have to slam the hood to close it....
