Attempted to lower top today for commute home. Windows lowered, boot moved only 1/4 inch then stopped. Moved top switch as if to raise top, boot retracted the 1/4 inch it moved, and windows went to up position. Shut car down, opened boot as if to place item inside, checked to see if anything was binding boot. Everything OK, in fact, trunk area empty. Started car again, same results. Windows lowered, only slight upwards boot movement. This has never happend before. Car has 53K miles on it and has been hassle free. Any thoughts? BTW...I can hear the hydraulic pump running. Nothing sounds out of the ordinary.

Hey Fieldskr!
I don't have a solid answer for you except that I know, through reading the threads, that people have issues with the switches. I'd suggest doing an advanced search for "Top" in the titles. I found 21 different threads dealing with the power top either not coming up or not coming down.![drive](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/driving.gif)
Good Luck!

DesignoSLK,
Thanks for the response. Prior to posting I did a thread search on "Top" and "Roof". Saw lots of SLK owners who had roof issues ranging from switch issues perpetuated by temperature, to hydraulic leaks/failures. One common theme seemed to be the roof itself would cease movement either on the way down or up. No one seemed to have issue with the boot opening to allow the top to slide back.
It bugs me that the top is not working, but I can be thankful it malfunctioned in the closed position vs. open. I'll be making a trip to my local repair shop (Bergman's in Brandon Florida) next week. I was holding out some hope that someone might know what the root cause might be. Whatever the problem is, since it involves he roof, I'm sure it will be expensive.
