Unhappy Exhaust leak?

Hello,

my 99 SLK with 38K makes exhaust leak noise when I start and only it is cold. After a few minutes, the leaking exhaust sound will be gone.

Does any have this problem?

Any of your info would be helpful.

Thanks.

That is the exhaust bypass working. It is used to warm-up the engine more quickly. As long as the sound goes away when the engin is warm, you are fine.

not stock.
actually, I didnt know SLKs had exhaust bypass...... If you ask me, it could be a header gasket going bad....or some of the gaskets going bad, try locating the leak when the car is cold and its noticable, and when you have located..... take it to an exhaust shop to get it checked.
