Winshield "pits"

I have just noticed that in bright sunlight, that I can see what appear to be "pitting" on my windshield. Kind of like the windshield was momentarily sand blasted. I thought it was tree sap at first (even though I never park under a tree) and I have windexed it to death to no avail. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions or is this a normal thing. Yesterday the dealer said it was not covered because it is normal wear and tear. I have a 2003 SLK320 with 25.2K miles.

Sounds like normal wear and tear SM. Still sucks regardless. I just replaced mine. When I drove it out to Vegas, it was very minimal, but after 9 months in the desert and mega-construction, it took on the "sand-blasted" look too.

I see you're in Santa Barbara. Give Phil a call at www.mercedesshop.com (Buena Park, CA), he'll do you right. Check the price at your local stealership first so you know what you'll be saving with Phil. Tell him Kevin from Vegas sent you.

You can try and polish it, there's a couple of kits available, Caswell Plating has one that's effective and inexpensive. If you get new, Pilkington is one of the larger MB glass suppliers. A new Pilkington windshield should set you back about $300 installed from a reliable glass place. My wife complains about my kid's SLK windshield but it's normal. If it bothers you, just get it replace every year or so and you'll be happy.

Check your auto insurance; it may be covered with no deductible.

I have USAA and was told my policy didn't cover it because it's considered normal wear and tear. However, SM, you're policy may be different. Just an FYI. Never hurts to ask

Thanks to all for your responses. I'll call my insurance company and check with the repair shop that Kevin provided. I'll look for something to 'polish' it too.
