So today I decided to investigate a common problem on SLK230 engines, that is oil leaking from the cam adjuster solenoid and wicking through the wiring harness to the ECU. The good news is, there was no oil seepage. But the bad news was twofold.
1. I was told that the front engine cover could be removed by pulling on it with some force as it just snaps into place. As it turns out, "snaps" is exactly what happened. Three or four pieces of plasitc broke off and fell into the bowels of the engine compartment. The cover, part # A111 158 01 85, is now useless.
2. As I unplugged the connector to the cam adjuster solenoid, the plastic housing was extremely brittle and it broke into a half dozen pieces. Fortunately the wires were still soldered to the metal inserts which remained firmly attached to the pins. So the electrical connection is intact but the connector is kaput.
The solution for #1 is simple. I'll order a replacement cover. But fixing #2 will be a bit trickier. I'd prefer not to have to buy an entire harness just to replace one connector. I'd much rather just get a new connector and solder it on the harness.
Does anyone know if this particular connector can be found anywhere?
